Duplex ultrasound imaging is arguably the single most important advance in Phlebology, the medical discipline concerned with the veins. In order for veins to be treated properly, exact location of venous reflux needs to be identified and any contraindications to treatment need to be ruled out. At Chicago Vein Institute, our Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) performs complete diagnostic evaluation of the deep and superficial venous systems to identify damaged veins and valves and pinpoint the location of venous reflux.
The ultrasound is painless and noninvasive. Patients are required to wear loose clothing, which will be provided by Chicago Vein Institute. Patients can expect to the complete ultrasound appointment to last 90 minutes.
Regular surveillance, even after successful treatment, is important. Patients should return for a three-month and a six-month follow-up visit after treatment, and should schedule regular yearly follow-up ultrasound exams.
EVLA™ is a minimally invasive, FDA approved treatment for insufficient varicose veins. Under local anesthesia and with the assistance of ultrasound, a laser catheter is inserted into the saphenous vein through a tiny (1-2 mm) opening. The laser is slowly heated, and seals the damaged vein as the catheter is withdrawn. The procedure takes about 45 minutes and leaves no visible scars.

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a method of removing large, bulging varicosities. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia administered in the doctor’s office. The veins are removed through micro-incisions as small as 1mm.

This procedure is specifically used to target smaller veins, such as those that branch out on the legs. It can usually be done in about a half hour.lady in bathroom Doctors use an ultrasound and fine gauge needle to inject a small amount of special solution into the affected veins. The substance causes the veins to collapse, and it usually takes between three to five sessions to get maximally effective results. Over a period of about three to six months, the treated veins will gradually disappear. This intervention may be recommended for people with poor circulation, because it shifts blood flow to healthy veins.

This alternative is often used to eliminate spider veins. Like ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy procedures, a very small needle is used to inject a solution that targets the unhealthy veins, and they will eventually disappear.

Compression therapy relieves symptoms associated with vein disorders, helps with overall circulation and drastically lowers the recurrence of varicose veins after vein surgery, thereby increasing long-term effectiveness of treatment. Compression also reduces risk of developing blood clots and other side effects.
